Ponta da Oliveira is a viewpoint above the surface with a wonderful view of the neighbouring Desertas islands. “Ponta Oliveira” runs underwater to a depth of ca. 28m and is a massive lava flow, the “little sister” of the house reef spot “Lavafinger”. From the entrance you dive eastwards, always along the wall until you reach a nice overhang. Along the way you will discover all kinds of creatures that, it seems, never stand still. Ghost crabs, starfish, fire worms, scorpion fish, lizard fish, monk fish and damselfish are just some of the visitors. It goes deeper down the “Ponta” and under a small overhang hides a magnificent white club anemone with cleaner shrimps…… the beauty is in the macro range, but mackerels, groupers and barracudas are also regularly encountered, always on the lookout for prey.
“Just a few fin kicks from the entry point, Ponta da Oliveira reveals an underwater world that enchants me anew with every dive.
The wall slopes gently down into the deep blue, and it is this special atmosphere — a blend of light, shadow, and the seemingly endless ocean — that makes the dive so unique.
It is not a dive site that loudly demands attention, yet it always seems to hold the promise of a special surprise. Beyond the smaller marine creatures that continually fascinate macro lovers, there is always the feeling”
