A huge expanse of seabed with gullies and canyons forms an impressive backdrop to the biodiversity here. In addition to the usual Madeiran species, rays can be seen gliding across the sand. The large schools of sea bream are always an impressive sight and the macro world here is also quite spectacular with crustaceans such as arrow crabs, spider crabs and locust lobsters, which like to hide in the crevices. It’s a great reef to watch moray eels do their thing, of course only, if you don’t get distracted by the butterfly rays.
