Boat Spot: “Blue Hole”

Just a short boat ride to the east, 150m from the shore, is an extensive plateau. The plateau slopes gently down to a depth of 11m and ends with a wall down to the sandy bottom at 19m. There hides the entrance to the exciting and expansive cave/grotto, the Blue Hole. The dive requires good buoyancy, but rewards with absolutely loads of trumpet fish, scorpion fish, crabs, prawns, beautiful eight-striped grunts and a fantastic blue towards the exit. Large schools of bream and the occasional turtle on the sandy bottom make this dive site with its cave an absolute experience.

“Shortly after entering the cave, we pass through a large school of striped grunts. Good buoyancy control is essential here, so the divers following behind can fully enjoy the cave experience as well. And an experience it truly is: diving this cavern as it slopes gently downward into the depths.

Along the walls, we discover a variety of shrimp and crabs, as well as beautifully colored scorpionfish hiding among the rocks. At the exit, the Blue Hole fully lives up to its name. Before us opens an endless deep blue, filled with countless trumpetfish gracefully hovering in the water.

A large school of jackfish seems to find this spot just as appealing as we do and uses the area as its hunting ground. As the dive continues across the sandy plateau, we spot a small stingray resting on the seabed before eventually making our way back toward the Hole once again — this time approaching it from the “exit” side.”
