Heading east along Madeira’s rocky coast, past the airport it takes 25 minutes by boat to reach the dive site of Baixa da Cruz off the bay of Machico. From a depth of 35 m, this imposing large rock cone spirals down to 4 m below the water surface. From a depth of 20m, very beautiful specimens of black coral grow there, partly overgrown with crustose anemones, as well as the rare and tropical whip coral, which gives the diving area a tropical character. In addition, you can see large shoals of golden cowfish, barracudas, mackerels and rays often lying in the sand, which then makes this dive spot a lasting impression. This dive site can only be visited under optimal wind and weather conditions
